Ass. Prof. Dr. Silvia Berger-Ziauddin
Ass. Prof. Dr. Silvia Berger Ziauddin (Institute of History) completed her habilitation on the history of the atomic bunker in Switzerland in the summer of 2019 ("Survival cell. Territory. Brothel. Bunker|Switzerland in the Nuclear Age"). In this context, she recently wrote a paper on the transformation of Alpine nuclear protection infrastructures into data centres. In her current research she is interested in the underground as well as in vertical perspectives, resources and mobilities. Together with Prof. Dr. Christian Rohr and Prof. Dr. Jean-David Gerber, she is organising the lecture series "Vertical: Interdisciplinary perspectives on the depths and heights of Switzerland" at the University of Bern in the spring semester of 2020. Among other things, the lecture addresses the cultural history of the Alps and, based on the (supposed) "crypto gold rush" in the Swiss mountains, also addresses alpine infrastructure and extraction regimes.
